Szepsy 100 Úrágya 2015

On the 3rd of December 2016 we held a reception to hand over the bottles of the Szepsy 100 Úrágya 2015 selection. The wine is a symbol of the way of the Furmint variety gaining reputation on the international wine world. The number 100 refers to the fact that István Szepsy (65) and István Szepsy Jr (35) become 100 years old together. The wine which was sold on the highest price in the history of dry Furmint has found its buyers en-primeur within 3 days.

We have started the 2016 harvest in the middle of September. First we harvested the grapes for the base of the sparkling wines and the dry Sárgamuskotály following by the dry commune level wines and the single vineyard selections. Finally grapes for late harvest and botrytised sweet wines will be harvested. In 2016 the quality of the grapes are good, with advanced botrytis development, therefor careful selection required for dry wines. We are looking forward to an ideal vintage for botrytised wines.

In the last month Szent Tamás Winery won five gold and grand gold medals on international wine competitions.

Riedel Furmint glass

Tokaji Ősz event has written its name into gastro-history last week when unrepeatable events happened, such as the first Szepsy father and son wine tasting combined with five dishes created by four Michelin-starred chefs - Miguel Vieira, Széll Tamás, Sárközi Ákos, Pesti István - and Gábor Horváth plus Georg Riedel revealed the new, jointly developed Riedel Furmint glass himself. In 2015 Szepsy Istvan junior was the professional leader and superviseor of Tokaji Ősz.

„We had been making brand new scientific researches - for the first time - to create the shape and size for dry furmint and we released an extraordinary and so to say astonishing shape. The advantage of this glass is that it works really well with all the different furmints: from the dry ones through semi-sweets till even the sweet ones. Back in time we started to design this glass for dry furmint but when we have tasted other furmints from that we surprisingly experienced that they work really great, too." - said Georg Riedel.
